My 1st Shoulder Surgery

by Lia Halsall

Alrighty then. Here’s what the surgeon had to say to me today. When he went in he found the collor bone side of my ac joint was good but the acromion side showed some fair sign of wear and tear which he cleaned up. Inside the actual shoulder there was obvious evidence of impingement which he also attended to by doing some soft tissue re-adjustment and that’s it. I ended up having a total of four key hole entry points which each have one suture in. They’ll come out in two weeks when I see him at my next consultation. In between now and then I’ll have to do physio execrcises five times a day to prevent getting frozen shoulder and I’m to start using it again as per nomal. It’s pretty much up to me and how I feel. Except there’s no upper body gym for at least a month and definitely no over head movements for three months either. That’s okay, that was expected though. I’ll take all my medications and do everything I’m supposed to do to ensure a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks for posting my message and keeping everyone updated, I really appreciate it. As well as a very big thank you to all of you for the blog comments, personal emails, text messages and calls. Talk about extended family. After contacting my immediate family you guys were next on the list. How’s that for priority?

Well folks. it’s time for me to take my medication and eat again. Plus I need to rest my shoulder a little bit. I hope you’re all having a wonderful day!

Here’s to a prompt and optimal recovery!

You’ve done the tough bit now if you’re not too good with needles and medical procedures. It’s always an exercise in trust to put your health in someone else’s hands. I have great resect everytime how i realise how professional and knowledgeable people in the medical profession are. It’s both very humbling and reassuring, isn’t it!!

I can be a bit of a (little) control freak and it’s definitely a good exercise for me to trust someone else with my health. Make sme realise every time that there are things i cannot (and shouldn’t) control and i have to have faith in the experts.

It was a great decision to tackle this head on and get the procedure done early. It took guts! Good on you Lia.

Just think about all the great training sessions you will be enjoying in no time once all is healed up.

Cheers,
Virginie
