Good Friends are Hard to Find

by Lia Halsall

Good friends are hard to find but when you do, make sure that you do right by them so that they’re in your life forever.

Yesterday myself and hubby met and had an organic breakfast with two very special girlfriends of mine. It was the first time I’d met one of my girlfriends face to face after getting to know her online via email, blogging and social media over a lengthy period of time. My second girlfriend I hadn’t seen since moving up here and as per usual we just picked up where we left of last time we were together.

We all live very busy lives in this day and age and for one reason or another it becomes increasingly difficult to schedule that much-needed time with your girlfriends. But for me it was a little more than that. I have and still am struggling with my weight, health and fitness since the death of both my parents. This then manifested into yet another very negative body image of myself and one I didn’t care to share with anyone else unless I absolutely had to.

It’s not something I’m proud of, but it’s the truth. My truth. On my bad days I’d be so disgusted by the reflection looking back at me in the mirror that I just couldn’t bear seeing anyone in case they would judge me the way that I judge myself. Of course I know we’re our own worst critics and that it’s all in my head but I still allowed it to over power me and prevent me from leaving the house.

But yesterday thankfully was a good day for me and I forced myself to go. I’m so glad I did because pushing myself out of my comfort zone was exactly what I needed to do for many different reasons. I still felt a little uncomfortable but I know that’s not going away in a hurry. That’s going to take time and effort on my behalf and it will when I’m ready.

I missed my girlfriends. They’re both stunningly beautiful and such great company. Just being there with them both made me happy to be alive and living in that moment and making the effort to see them was so good for my heart and soul. Love is what heal’s everything and by allowing their love into my life made my day that little bit brighter and better and for that I’m incredibly thankful.

So note to self, don’t be afraid to let genuine love in from good friends. It’s worth the effort.

Book Crazy

by Lia Halsall

Books, books and you guessed it, more books. I’ve kind of gone book crazy lately and am busy stocking up on them to take with me overseas. Here’s what I’ve bought/ordered so far:

Eat Pray Love ~ Elizabeth Gilbert

You Can Heal Your Life ~ Louise L. Hay

The Power of Now ~ Eckhart Tolle

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People ~ Steven R. Covey

★ The Power ~ Rhonda Byrne

Fat is not who she is ~ Shelley Stark

As I’ve mentioned before, other than the obvious daily task of working my eight months overseas is going to be spent healing my mind, body and spirit. My plan is to train in the mornings before work, alternating between resistance training and cardio. Then of an evening I plan to practice my yoga, read books, listen to audiobooks or watch movies. Of course this all sounds relatively simple in theory but I won’t truly know what my daily routine will be until I’m actually there and living it.

I personally prefer my books to have a hard cover where possible and found a great website to buy them. The books are cheaper than we pay here and the shipping is free, so if you haven’t heard of it before check out The Book Depository. I highly recommend it. If I keep buying books at this rate though I’ll need to turn one of my rooms into a library.

On that note I really must get going. Enjoy what’s left of your Sunday.

LiaHalsall.com Redesign

by Lia Halsall

As well as a minor change to my previous title from “I’ve Finally Figured It Out” to “I’m Finally Figuring It Out” I’m also in the process of redesigning my website once again with Kristarella. We’ve already started with some of the smaller and not so noticeable changes and will be leaving the best to last. It’ll have a completely new look.

I’m open to suggestions as always, so please feel free to share what you like or don’t like about my current website. Plus if you have any other useful suggestions I’d love to hear them too.

Food Matters

Earlier this year I posted a similar post about the future of our nutrition after watching Food, inc. What’s it going to take for people to wake up to themselves and realise that they’re killing themselves slowly by what they chose to eat.

You are what you eat so make the change now, before it’s too late. Otherwise diabetes, heart condition and/or cancer WILL be your FUTURE.

New York City

by Lia Halsall

Originally we were going to go to Italy & France. But we changed our minds this week due to the Australian Dollar being worth so much more over in America compared to Europe. So the plan now is we’re going to spend two weeks exploring New York City. Winter will be well and truly set in over there when we arrive and I’m really hoping that it’s snowing. I’ve not been exposed to much of it before and would love the opportunity to see it, feel it and play in it. And then there’s my love of all things winter fashion.

NYC has been a dream location of mine to visit for as long as I can remember. One of many actually. Hubby’s going to fly to me and then from there we’ll fly out together into NYC. We’re going to stay somewhere relatively central to everything and then decide on what we’re going to do on a day by day basis. Ground Zero is a must see, especially because of what we do. We want to pay our respects and get a greater appreciation of why we’re doing what we’re doing. It’s a bigger picture type thing for me and something I just feel that I have to do. It’s hard to put into words.

I’m also hoping to catch up with a very dear friend of mine who lives across the border in Canada. We’ve not met face to face before but she’s been a pillar of strength during my grieving process. So I’m really hoping that both our schedules will allow us this wonderful opportunity, fingers crossed.

So if anyone who’s reading this has travelled there before feel free to share your experiences with me. I’d love to hear about them.
