My 1st Loaf of Bread

by Lia Halsall

Well here it is, as promised, my very first loaf of bread baked in my new bread maker. It’s an organic rye and was positively delicious. Tomorrow I’m trying the organic multi-grain bread mix, here’s hoping it’s as good as this one.

I Own My Fat

by Lia Halsall

I own my fat, do you?

This is a question I’ve only recently been able to answer, yes. To look into the mirror and immediately feel disgust, loathe, shame and self-hate isn’t a healthy mind set by any means. It raises the questions, why do I hate myself because of what I’ve done to myself? What good will come of all this loathing? Is this really how I want to live my life? When will it stop?

These are all questions I’ve thought to myself at one stage of my life or another and I’m guessing I’m not alone in thinking them either. But what’s changed for me now is the way I perceive myself and my body image from a negative to a positive with the help of my hubby. Instead of thinking negative which in turn would result in me eating/drinking emotionally I tried looking at it as a positive. Not an easy task, let me tell you. But one I was willing to try for the sake of myself and my husband. He was extremely worried at how low my self-esteem had gotten whilst he was away and until that point I hadn’t realised just how low is really was.

Think Nigella Lawson. She’s your typical hour glass figure who’s also very voluptuous and curvaceous and there’s nothing wrong with that. So for the interim, that was going to be how I perceived myself and my fat. It is what it is and I can change it over time. I couldn’t change how I looked that very second but I could change how I thought and felt about myself.

This was something that had taken me a very long time to come to terms with, and it wasn’t easy. But with time and change it did get that little bit easier. The key was to never ever give up on myself. Even in my darkest hour I never ever gave up on myself.

Kitchen Appliances

by Lia Halsall

Kitchen appliances are a figure competitors best friend so I’d like to introduce you to my two new best friends, Ms Braun Multiquick 5 & Ms Panasonic Bread Maker.

My Mum first bought me a Braun Multiquick years and years ago. It’s been a great addition to our kitchen but it’s time to upgrade and this is it’s new replacement. I’m sure we’re going to be very happy making all kinds of wonderful healthy snacks and meals together when I buy it.

The Panasonic Bread Maker on the other hand is a completely new addition to our kitchen. I’ve never owned one but my mother-in-law does and it’s the bomb. The reason I’ve done this is because I’m sick and tired of being limited to buying 100% organic bread and often can’t buy the exact type that I want. We’re not big bread eaters so we never finish a loaf off, instead we freeze it for toast.

But now we can buy organic bread mixes and create exactly what we want and smaller loaves. Perfect ending if you ask me. It’s yet another step towards being able to eat more clean whole organic foods. I’ll know exactly what goes into my bread and have greater choices available to me now. Who doesn’t love the smell of baking bread. I can’t wait to test drive it this weekend.

If I remember I’ll have to take a photo of them in action in the kitchen and then their final results. If you’re interested in seeing photos let me know by leaving me a comment and I’ll definitely do it for you.

So what are your favourite kitchen appliances and why?

Lorna Jane

by Lia Halsall

Lorna Jane is my store of choice when it comes to training gear. So here’s what I picked up this week as a reward to myself for being consistent and applying the necessary self-discipline to my training and nutrition.

I don’t have set rewards as such, instead it’s more random and spontaneous these days, like this purchase was. I did need some new training clothes though. When I saw this new t-shirt I just loved the logo and had to have it especially since living in Queensland. The comfort sports bra on the other hand are an old favourite of mine, they keep the girls nicely secured for when I’m training. Now I have one in black and white.

For me, it’s important that I not only feel good but also look good. There’s nothing wrong with taking pride in your appearance even when we’re at the gym. If I feel good then I look good, if I look good then I’m more confident. It’s a win win situation isn’t it.

Whilst I’m on the subject of training gear I’m also noticing some physical changes from my Nike Free Run+. They definitely work the lower legs. Because they have a barefoot-like feel with shoe-like benefits, I’ve noticed lately that my shins and calves are being utilised more because they’re pulling up sore. When my new SKINS arrive they’ll definitely come in handy. They’ll probably look funny on but they’ll definitely come in handy and help with muscle recovery. That and scheduling in an extra epsom salt bath. I’m a firm believer that if you don’t look after your body then it won’t look after you. We have to treat our bodies more like a temple and worship them if we want to achieve great things with them. Nothing’s impossible if you really really want it.
