Guinea Pig Training Program: Phase 4 Week 1

by Lia Halsall

We’re on the home straight now of our training program. It’s the last month and we only have four weeks to go. I can’t believe how quickly time has passed. Actually I can’t believe how quickly this year has passed. Mum always said that with every year you get older that time goes quicker, and she wasn’t wrong.

I received the last training program for the month ahead in my inbox on the weekend. This month is a little different than the last three and we’re up for the challenge. If yesterday’s anything to go by it’s going to be a real doozy of a month because we’re both already suffering delayed onset muscle soreness from head to toe. Thankfully Musashi take care of that for me in the way of my supplements.

This week my hubby wore his Vibram® Fivefingers® to gym in lieu of runners. He’s been researching them online for quite some time now and was very interested to try them out and see how they would perform. The main reason being is that we do all of our lower body training wearing socks. We both wanted better foot mechanics and found that structuarally we achieved better results without wearing our runners. Hubby rated them so highly that I’m going to get myself a pair this weekend. I could talk about why they’re so great but instead I’ve copied and pasted the technology straight from their website:

“The typical human foot is really a miracle of evolution with 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. Like the rest of the body, to keep our feet healthy, they need to be stimulated and exercised.

Many experts believe the shoes we wear not only cast the foot in a protective form, but also weaken our foot and leg muscles, leaving them underdeveloped and more prone to injury. And while there are many occasions where traditional footwear is essential for protection, safety, and security, it is equally important to stimulate and exercise the foot in a more natural state on a regular basis.

That’s why we recommend wearing Vibram® FiveFingers® for exercise, for play, and for fun. Stimulating muscles in your feet and lower legs will not only make you stronger and healthier, it improves your balance, agility and proprioception.”

I know, they look rediculous but I want different so I’ve had to do different this year. So far everything I’ve tried has been successful for me and a positive step towards reaching my goals. So this will just be another one of those steps.

Goodbye Asics. Hello Vibram.
