Yep they’re out there, and at one time or another we’ve all indulged in them. They’re the not so good choices we’ve made because we think we want it or even worse we think we need it! Can you imagine a worse crime than thinking we need to eat something that’s calorie loaded just for the sake of eating. Raise your right hand is this is you. I thought as much, it’s okay because it’s not the end of the world and best of all you can still do something about it.
I’m constantly saying that there’s always a choice and it’s the choice that we make that matters the most. So lets make the smarter choice that we know we want to but often don’t. You can still have your cake and eat it too so to speak by chosing something that’s less calorie dense. Here are some examples of things I’ve done in the past that have helped make a difference:
★ Instead of ice-cream in a cone
✔ I have a single scoop of ice-cream in a cup with a spoon
★ Instead of a ham, cheese, mayonnaise and salad sandwich
✔ I have Subway 6″ roasted chicken on wheat with all the salads and toasted for texture
★ Instead of McDonalds Hamburgers
✔ I have a homemade lean burger in a multi-grain roll with loads of salad to fill me up
★ Instead of a slice of cake
✔ I have a slice of cake for two (half the cake = half the calories)
★ Instead of a latte with sugar
✔ I have a skinny latte with sweetener
★ Instead of dip and biscuits
✔ I have a french onion cottage cheese dip with carrot and celery sticks
★ Instead of a hot chocolate
✔ I have a cup of cocoa with sweetener
★ Instead of dip and biscuits
✔ I have a french onion cottage cheese dip with carrot and celery sticks
You don’t have to go without to be health conscience you just have to make smarter nutritional choices, that’s all. Now I’ve shared with you some of my ideas, I want to know about yours?
Eric Cressey posted on his blog this post requesting human guinea pigs for his latest project. Now you already know how much I respect this guy, especially considering I’m already doing his Maximum Strength training program with the Assess & Correct thrown in pre and post training.
So of course I had to email him and apply. I mean, you’ve got to be in it to win it right. Well as luck may have it, I did. I was one of the very lucky ones to be chosen to be his guinea pig. LOL!! Kristin a fellow blogger was also chosen so there’ll be the two of us blogging about our progress no doubt.
In 2007 my hubby emailed me three articles, Shoulder Savers I, II & III, he wanted me to read. He thought it would help me considering at that stage I was post-surgery from my first of two shoulder surgeries, and he was right. I did need to read them. Eric Cressey acquired the reputation of being the “shoulder guy” so I took notice of what he said. I then discovered his personal website subscribing to his blog. I’ve purchased many of his products and every cent was well spent. The rest my friends as they say is now history. Until now, that is.
Life has kindly presented me with this wonderful new opportunity and I’m beside myself with joy and glee about it. I honestly couldn’t be happier at this moment. This is not only a privilege but also a dream come true to work with him. It’ll be four months that I’ll never forget that’s for sure. We’re all waiting for further details letting us know what we have to do so until then it’s sit tight and wait patiently. And you all know that patience isn’t my strongest point. LOL!!
Happy Australia Day Everyone!
I can’t believe how busy things have been since I started back at work last week, what with my training and new found love for life. It’s been busy in a good way though because I’m more focused on achieving and maintaining my health and fitness goals this year. I’m working towards getting down to my off-season condition and it’s so far so good. I’ve had consistent drops in weight and in body fat so I know that my training and nutrition is working. But to be sure, I’m booking myself in for bodyology. It’s a scientific way to measure the effectiveness of what you’re doing and take all the guessing out of it. I’ll explain more about it when I get it done in a later post.
So I’m currently at Week 3 Phase 1 in my Maximum Strength Training Program. Eric Cressey didn’t disappoint, that’s for sure. Hubby and I are both loving the training and already have noticed increased flexibility, better range of movement not to forget the strength gains we’re experiencing. I’ve never trained like this in my life and although it’s a hell of a lot of work the outcome will speak for itself when we get to Week 16.
Here are the resources I’m utilising this year that are obviously working for me:
★ Lindy Olsen’s 7 Rules for Success (Lifestyle)
★ Precision Nutrition (Nutrition)
★ Maximum Strength Training Program (Training)
I also have to take into considering other health issues so that I don’t end up back where I started, things like:
★ Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS)
★ Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
★ Food Sensitivities
★ Adrenal Fatigue
You see, no one has it easy in life when it comes to their health and fitness. We all have challenges, the only difference is the choice that we make when faced with them. I could’ve easily gone with the too hard basket option and completely given up on remaining a figure competitor due to this list and the impact that this sport has on my health. Everything about it says I couldn’t have chosen a worse sport but not stubborn old me. I refuse to give in to that train of thought. Instead I’m determined to find a way for me to do what I want to do that will be healthy and maintainable, nothing’s impossible.
I can’t consume as much protein as the next competitor due to my renal health but thats okay because it’s not the end of the world. So what if it’s a slower and steadier growth progress, this is me and my body and I’m only competing against myself. I worry about me and my body because that’s what I can control and I never waste time comparing myself to any other competitors when we’re not genetically the same. I mean, what’s the point!
Life is for living and that’s exactly what I’m doing. I’m living my life, my way and am so much happier for it.
