What are you waiting for?

by Lia Halsall

I’ve previously posted about my thoughts on the whole new years resolution thing. I never have and never will participate in it because I decide when I set my goals, not society. And time and time again I’ve seen those new years resolutions broken so really, what was the point?

I drive my life, life doesn’t drive me. So what are you waiting for? You do realise don’t you that if you wait then that’s valuable time wasted that could’ve been spent already working towards your health and fitness goal. The age old excuses “I’ll start on Monday”, “I’ll start next week”, ”I’ll start after xmas” or “I’ll start 1st January”just don’t cut it anymore in my world. I mean, seriously does your health mean that little to you that you can wait? The only people who don’t have a choice are those waiting on an organ donor transplant list. We on the other hand do have choices and what a blessing that is. I certainly don’t take my health for grated after having had a father go through not one but two kidney transplants. Then I lost both my parents last year, one unexpectedly in an accident and one due to health reasons. I now appreciate things more than ever before and it’s because of these experiences I’ve learnt these very valuable lessons. Life is for living, so I stopped procrastinating and started making a difference.

As you’ve probably noticed my posts are getting more honest and truthful by the day and I make no appologies for that. They’re what I think and feel because I now know that life’s to short to waste on anything less than the best for myself. 2010 is already shaping up to be a big year both personally and professionaly for me. I have no doubt there’ll be more challenges but this time around I’m ready to face whatever life throws in my path.

Are you?

Hey Lia,

Will be posting a pic of the new ‘do’ soon, thanks for comment.

With regards to the NY Reso thing…………..just wanted to comment.I have been gulity in the past of the whole diet thing as a NY reso, giving up this, giving up that, not doing this, not doing that anymore and sometimes I have failed and ended up worse off and sometimes it has been in alignment with the fact that I was in the right space to get may act together anyway.I totally agree that health shouldn’t hinge on a Monday start or Jan 1st coming round, I personally live each day the best I can now in every aspect and have a huge shift in my actions and beliefs which is great, but……. I do think that maybe for the very small % that NY reso’s may help, may kickstart, may assist in taking any action towards a ‘better’ life then go ahead and do them because any % of people making a change to health, fitness etc in whatever way, is better than none.I do have a focus for the year which will commence on Jan 1st but its an exercisee based focus and that date is just so I have a start point to go from. It does not mean I have been slacking off up until that point, far from it as you will have seen when checking into my blog, but I can toatlly see what your saying about people, probably at the beg of December for example saying ‘in Jan I’m going to……..’ Opppps, this became a long comment, sorry for taking up space but thought I’d share my thoughts too. :)

Have a great night

Shar x

Can’t wait to see the photo, I’m sure your new hair will look great! ;)

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate your opinion and perspective Shar. Something’s always better than nothing like you say but as we both know from personal experiences new years resolutions seldom last. Our health is so very important and should never be taken for granted. If only everyone understood this fact our world would be a healthier place to live in. xxx

Truthful, open, honest communication.  Say what you do and do what you say.  And therein lies the difference between a winner and just field-filler (as I call the rest of the pack).Very few people make true resolutions for change that they commit to, take action daily towards achieving, and believe in.  It doesn’t matter if they set it at NYE or any other day of the year.Kidney transplants huh?  We have something else in common too.  JB had that and dialysis too.  Health is important, life is short.  But life is meant for living, not gorging. Personal accountability and responsibility has to begin somewhere, and if a trigger is NY resolutions, than I support that.  Me, I don’t believe in the whole “buzz” about NY resolutions.  It’s just a convenient time for me to change gears on my existing plans. Stay strong!

Laynie you and I have learnt many very important lessons through losing loved ones. The most important being our health and fitness. Life is to precious to waste even for a second.

I gave up drinking and took up living back on 1st December. I want to live a happy and healthy life and that’s exactly what I’m doing now. I’m glad I did because life is so much clearer now and I’m much more focussed.

Thanks for dropping by. ;) xxx

Ha ha! yes-why wait indeed?! If you’ve made the decision to make changes, what is the point of waiting? ;-)

I have a bbq today with all of our friends and family up here. I won’t be drinking and if lunch carries on to dinner I’ll be bailing on them to hit the gym with Lindy. Nothing and no-one gets in the way of my health and fitness goals.

Waiting is not an option Raechelle. ;) xxx

Just got a wake up call today Lia.  I’m starting my planned program tomorrow instead of Jan 1st.  Like you say…what am I waiting for?

Totally agree Lia; hubby and I started toward our new fitness goals well before Christmas and continued with them right through the festivities, still doing all of our workouts. We still enjoyed some fresh seafood and a few little treats with our families  on Christmas day without making a pig of ourselves or overdrinking. What a great feeling to get to the other side and to actually be leaner, Yaah! For me, a new goal starts when I’ve acheived the previous goal, not when the new year starts.

It’s a good feeling, isn’t it. The new year’s already looking up for us Lynne. ;) xxx

Couldn’t agree more!  I’ve already started my action plan for the new year.  I love your honesty with the last few posts.  Hope you have been enjoying your holidays relaxing at Noosa and the rain hasn’t put on damper on things.  Shannon x

Being honest certainly isn’t a popularity contest but it’s how I chose to live my life and I’m comfortable with it Shannon.

The weather hasn’t been so bad, at least it hasn’t been cold. LOL!! ;) xxx
