Rehab & Prehab

Live Healthy

Some times in life you have to stop and look back over the path that you’ve travelled to determine if the path laying ahead is still taking us to the right destination. It’s not uncommon when you’re working towards a specific goal to stop and re-evaluate from time to time, it’s actually very beneficial and could save you a lot to time and effort. After all, things change. Sometimes it’s things within our control and other times it’s things out of control. Either way, we can still travel a path albeit possibly a different one that will still get us to our chosen destination.

This is where I’m at now. I have a long term health and fitness goal as you all know and I had recently stopped to re-evaluate where I was at with it. My body has been having some women’s and health issues so these become a higher priority to address. So for the moment I’m going to take a detour that will obviously add to the length of time it’ll take to achieve my goal but in the end I’ll still end up at the exact same destination. I’ve stopped doing what I was doing in regards to my training and have moved into something different, rehab & prehab training. My focus at the moment is rehabilitation and preventhabilitation (and yes I know that this isn’t a real word, it’s simply made up LOL!!). I have injuries and aliments that need rehabilitation like both my shoulders as well as my body preventhabilitation. My tendons are pretty much clicking on every single joint I have,  a lot (too many to list) of my muscle groups are tight with limited flexibility and my range of movement throughout my entire body also needs a lot of work. So with the help of some new resources from some experts in the industry who work with injured athletes I’m going to get this body back in better working condition then ever before. My tools of the trade now in the gym are body weight dynamic stretches, resistance bands and a physio roller. I’m actually learning and retaining so much more about my skeletal and muscular system than I was when I was studying which is great! Just hopes it lasts. LOL!!

Here’s what I’ve bought to help me out:

★ Magnificent Mobility ~ 10 Minutes to Better Flexibility, Performance & Health

★ Inside-Out ~ The Ultimate Upper Body Warm-up

★ Assess & Correct ~ Breaking Barriers to Unlock Performance

I have two out of the three resources, one’s still on it’s way in the mail and will hopefully arrive here soon. So in the meantime I’ll be putting together a full body rehab & prehab program until I start to feel results and then I’ll stop and re-evaluate again. I’ll post my new program up next week so you can see what I am doing, hopefully you’ll get something out of it too.

So what do you do to help yourself when you’re faced with these issues?

As much as we put our bodies through, it’s amazing that it doesn’t just scream at us-LOL! Well, maybe it is screaming but we just keep plugging our ears…hehehe. I’m sure your body will thank you for “listening”!
I wish mine would-LOL!

I’ve ended up back at this drawing board too many times to ignore it again Raechelle. Between now and the end of this year it’s all about “Rehab & Prehab”. Once I have a solid foundation then I’ll begin to build again on it. ;) xxx

Thanks Lia. I have Magnificent Mobility, and have been doing the dynamic stretches/activation exercises for months now, with great results. I’m back into it in a big way in addition to my physio exercises, as I’m currently on the rehab path ATM too. Have you read the ‘Assess & Correct’ resource yet? I know it’s only knew and would be interested in your feedback on it.

Good on you for being able to stop and re-evaluate and take a different path. As you say, it’s not necessarily important how you achieve your end goal – it takes flexibility and a solution-orientated attitude to still achieve your goals in the face of setbacks and adversity.

I’ve bought “Assess & Correct”, I’ve already got the e-book but I’m waiting for the dvd to arrive in the mail. So far it looks to be the best resource we’ve bought yet, definitely worth the outlay in my and my husband’s opinion Kerry. Once I’ve read everything, watched everything and have put them all into practice I’m going to be posting reviews on them here on my blog.

Coming back to the drawing board, listening to my body and not being afraid to start all over again is much more important to me. Only this time around I KNOW that what muscle gains I make when I return to resistance training will definitely be 100%. It’s also teaching me patience which is another valuable lesson I need to learn so all is not loss Kerry. :) xxx

Thanks for the yummy recipe below Lia! I love cooking up new flavours, especially for breakfast, I struggle a bit with that meal :)
