Old School Military Training

by Lia Halsall

My husband and I have given up our bodybuilding training and decided to try something different that we both feel will be more beneficial for us on a number of different levels. Now we don’t have fancy names for what we do or even train in fancy gyms, we just do what we do because it needs to be done. But the best way to describe what we’re doing is old school military training. He’s done a lot of research at the website link that I just provided and has custom tailored the information to suit our goals. It’ll suit both our professional and personal goals so it’s all good, it ticks all of our boxes. Some of the training and concepts are beyond hard core because it’s designed to prepare troops for some of the hardest jobs we have in the military as well as surviving in some of the harshest conditions and locations whilst being deployed. Let me put it to you this way, we’ve predicted that there will be blood, sweat, tears and snot at some if not all of the training sessions of which there will be five per week. How’s that for a sense of adventure?

This is going to challenge us like nothing has before and I don’t doubt it’ll push every button we have but I don’t care, I’m not living unless I’m living on the edge now. The bigger, the harder, the better, it is for me. Straight away we’ve had to increase our pre-training warm-up sessions to prevent aggravating old injuries or causing new injuries, prevention is better than the cause so they say. We’ve also increased our daily l-glutamine intake to assist with our recovery, that’s a given now. Then after this week’s introduction to our current training program I’ll have a better perspective so that I can report back next week. I’m a big one for sharing information and after all, there are no secrets out there. If you’re interested in seeing my weekly training, leave me a comment. Ask and you shall receive in next week’s training post.

So on that note, enjoy your training sessions this week and remember to give it everything you’ve got! What do you have to lose?

PPPPPPP = Prior Planning & Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance

Without a doubt the quickest and easiest way to fall off the nutrition wagon so to speak is to not be organised. I should know I’ve done it like a trillion times now myself. LOL!! So to prevent this from happening here’s what I do.

1. Take into consideration my PCOSfood sensitivities and then my preference of diet
2. Ensure I eat prior to shopping so that I’m not shopping hungry which can cause impulse buying
3. Have my shopping list with me and stick to it religiously with no deviations
4. Be flexible to change, that’s the key here

These three basic rules can help make your shopping experience that little bit easier and organised. But before I get to that stage this is what I do leading up to shopping:

★ Wednesday’s: Menu Planning – sit down with cookbooks and plan the following weeks nutrition
★ Thursday’s: Shopping List – type the shopping list into my iPhone ready for shopping
★ Friday’s: Supermarket Shopping – visit my local supermarket for the dry goods
★ Saturday’s: Victoria Markets – purchase organic meat, fruit, salad and vegetables

This is my plan and it works for me and my schedule. So what do you do to help you stay on top of your nutrition and does it work for you? Why don’t you tell me about it by leaving a comment below.

2009 INBA Navy Titles

by Lia Halsall

Own Batty Last night was the 2009 INBA Navy Titles. Owen’s a very dear friend of ours who competed and won his division. You can see for yourself that he was in phenomenal condition and I love the facial expressions he pulls on stage, they’re priceless. He’s a Physical Training Instructor in the Royal Australian Air Force based at Wagga Wagga (NSW). So he obviously leads by example in the health and fitness industry both personally and professionally.

We had the pleasure of him and his lovely fiancee stay with us and will again for the 2009 INBA Victorian & Australian Titles. So stay tuned for more photos over the next couple of weeks.

Well this is short and sweet because my eyes are hanging out of my head after crawling into bed at 0200h this morning. But you know what, after helping a friend and watching him get rewarded for all his hard work and effort was worth the sacrifice.

Batty once again congratulations, you did yourself and everyone who supports you very proud last night.

Happy Fathers Day Dad

by Lia Halsall

Me & Dad

I Can’t Believe You’re Gone

Dad, my sadness knows no end;
I can’t believe you’re gone;
I’m grieving for you every day;
It’s hard to carry on.

You were always there to support and care,
When I needed a true friend,
How I’ll ever do without our Dad,
I cannot comprehend.

You were my teacher and my guide,
My Dad, so good and strong;
Your example will sustain me now,
And last my whole life long.

I’m trying to communicate;
I hope that you can hear;
Expressing what I feel for you,
Helps me feel you’re near.

My memories of the times we had
Help the pain to go away.
But Dad, my life won’t be the same;
I’ll miss you every day.

A part of me went with you;
You left a gap too big to fill;
You’re my father and my hero;
I love you and we always will.
