Can you believe how quickly time is passing us by this year, it’s incredible isn’t it. Well it’s that time once again for my weekly update on how I’m progressing which is really great. My doctor and nurse are both really happy with where I’m at so that makes me happy too. They say that mothers and athletes are the best patients and healers because they are straight back into living their lives unlike everyone else. Apparently because of the pain involved and the rest that is needed to them that justifies doing nothing during the entire process. So instead they just lay on the couch, or sleep in bed and that’s about it. How little they know about their own bodies.
The average patient usually has no more than two or three sites down where as I opted for five, great idea in retrospect. I knew that there was going to be some pain and discomfort but I didn’t want it stopping me completely in my tracks. On the same note I didn’t want to do anything that was going to hinder my recovery either. I wear my compression garment 24/7, the only time it comes off is for a shower. No cheating at all, it’s not worth it. Yet another thing most patients don’t stick too, why I don’t know they must be crazy. So for me once I was back at work I started walking straight away, thirty minutes every morning and afternoon five days a week maintaining a monitored heart rate via my heart rate monitor. Yes I was swollen and exercising increased this but it’s not a bad thing, it’s a good thing. It gets the blood moving around the body and helps to flush it out. Within an hour or two after walking it would settle down and then some so I was better off for it. I also, as you already know have been supplementing like a woman possessed which I believe has made the biggest difference in my super speedy recovery. Every day in the powder form I’ve been taking l-glutamine and bcaa’s and in tablet form I’ve been taking bromelain and hmb. That and sticking to healthy nutrition five days on and two days off has seen me consistently lose weight every single week.
I only have one more week to go before I’m free from wearing my compression garment. That alone is going to take some getting used to because I feel safe wearing it, it’s hard to explain but those that have had liposuction done will understand me. My skin is itchy, so itchy but that is good because it means that I’m healing. I still need a lot more exfoliation before my skin’s back to it’s original condition, but I’m getting there. After all I have an up and coming photo shoot to prepare for and I want to look my best, absolute best.

I just got off the phone from talking to my nurse and she said because I’m already ahead of the game it can come off today. *woo hoo* She just told me to listen to my body and play it by ear. If I feel I need to wear it, wear it but if I don’t then don’t. So I’ll leave it on until this evening when I’d normally take it off for my evening shower and then it’ll be staying off. I cant’ wait to sleep in my bed tonight and actually feel my sheets up against my skin, it’s going to be sooo goood. Next Friday I’ll see my doctor and then at eight weeks out he takes all my ‘after photos’. I’ll get a copy of his before and after photos and post them up so you’ll have to hold off until then for a photo update.
Taking my compression garment off also means I can fiiiiinally go to the gym and start weight training. I’ve missed being in the gym like never before and am so hungry to go back. So this weekend I’ll sit down with hubby and we’ll write up my new rehabilitation program for me to kick off with come Monday. We’ll be using a coulple of different refernces, firstly the Shoulder Savers Part I, II & III articles by Eric Cressey and my Strength Training Anatomy book which I purchased this year. I’ll start with a three day training week using either body weight and/or low weight and higher repetitions until I increase my flexibility and strength. But if you’re interested in seeing what we come up with let me know by leaving a comment and I’ll happily post it up for you to see. The choice is yours.
I’m on a course for the next two days in the city so I best get everything ready. Until tomorrow.
