Rest & Recovery

by Lia Halsall

Sleeping

Rest and recovery is a crucial part of my plan for 2009. So this morning I enjoyed a nice long sleep in, I felt like I needed it and my body will thank me for it. I’ve started keeping my weekends pretty much appointment and commitment free so I can slow down and enjoy my life with my wonderful husband. Just as eating clean, taking supplements, drinking water and training really hard is crucial to my health and fitness goals so is adequate rest and recovery for my mind body and soul. I know it’s important, I’ve preached about it but seldom did I do it, until now. 2009 is about different for me and different I’m doing.

Little things make a big difference if only we take the time. This evening after dinner I felt like something sweet but knew it wasn’t the time to be indulging in anything over the top so I decided on a nice warm cup of hot chocolate. Instead of just drinking it and thinking nothing of it I’ve made it into quite a special ritual of which I really enjoy and love. I bought a fine bone china cup and saucer from Koko Black. I use a teaspoon of organic cocoa powder then add a small amount of boiling water to help dissolve everything. Using my espresso machine I heat up and froth the non-fat milk topping up the cup with it then sprinkling cocoa powder on the top of the froth for a desired effect. I then sit down, slow down and enjoy myself a nice warm cup of hot chocolate. I don’t just drink it I mean really enjoyed it and there’s nothing nicer in life then that, being in the moment and positively enjoying it.

Well it’s getting late and I really must take my supplements and water and get myself back off to bed.

Good Night!

Thanks Shannon. Is it still private or public?

I love your plan for more rest and recovery this year – I too think that this is so often overlooked in our hectic lives. I have been trying to enjoy myself a lot more on weekends, in the same kind of way. I probably though still need to take a leaf out of your book a bit more in that way though. I really want a hot chocolate now too!!! YUMMMMM!!!
Have fixed up my blog roll finally too – thank you for the prompt, I kept on forgetting to do it!
Have a great weekend

I’m still a long way off too with the rest and recovery days but I’m working towards it and that’s all that matters at the moment Carolyn. Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday are my rest and recovery days so now I just need to start ensuring I don’t book anything on them unless it can’t be avoided. Otherwise what’s the point?

Hi Lia,
I noticed your comment on KatieP’s blog about fitday and calorie king food logs and just thought I would let you know that I started using Calorie king and found it really tedious and the site very slow. I tried fitday after reading your comment and it is about 1000% better, faster, easier to use.
If I was you I would stick to fitday!
regards
Cath

Hi Lia,
I don’t normally comment, but I read the comment from Cath regarding Calorieking. I use this programme to log all my food etc, I bought the programme ($30 for download, I think) so I could have it on my computer at home, I have found it to be really good, it has Australian foods on it, and once you have put in all your custom foods and exercises it is really quite quick and easy to use. Just my thoughts on it.
take care
Pip

Thanks Pip. I remember when we first started using fitday it was time consuming and tedious but like you mentioned once it’s set up with our custom foods it’s obviously relatively straight forward so thank for the input. I really appreciate it!

I curious though, why don’t you normally comment if you don’t mind my asking you?
