La Ionica Chicken

You'll never forget the taste of a La Ionica Chicken. The old fashioned taste of natural, healthy chicken turns every dish into a mouth-watering experience. Grill it, bake it, bbq it, stir fry it. The chemically free process means that your La Ionica chicken, is healthy and tender with the meat retaining its natural juices. The way chicken should be.

You probably want to know why our chicken is so tender, succulent and processed chemically free. Our unique taste and quality is due to the Innovative process we use for every bird. We are the only chicken processor on mainland Australia to use the premium European method of “air chilling”, a process which does not involve the use of traditional spin – chillers filled with ice water and chlorine.

• A great tasting natural product
• A natural, appetizing pink flesh
• Firm and healthy meat that retains its natural juices
• You get what you pay for. No excess water
• Extended shelf life

I can contest to their products. Now I've eaten all sorts of different types of chicken and I have to say that this is simply the most delicious chicken I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Now obviously I'm restricted to what I can eat at the moment so the only thing I do with it is cook it in a little bit of sunflower oil and shallots, that's it! It simply melts in my mouth and is so tender and juicy, the flavour is incredible. Seriously if you can get this you just have to try it, at least once anyway. :o)

I got promoted today at work *woo hoo*

Work your way through

Some of your efforts will bring valuable results. Other efforts will bring valuable experience.
No effort is wasted when you choose to value it. Everything you do serves to eventually move you forward.

Anticipate what might go wrong and take steps to avoid those things. But don't make the mistake of avoiding action altogether just because there might be problems.

When the goal is worthy and meaningful, get busy and make it happen. Focus on the end result, expect the best, and make the commitment to deal with any obstacles that might arise.

Sure, it's easy to compile a list of excuses for not taking action. But that will get you precisely nowhere.

Though you know it won't always be easy going, take bold steps forward anyway. Be willing to meet the resistance that you know will come, and to work your way through, and real achievement is surely yours.

The Amazing Human Body Exhibition

I'm taking a break and typing this blog while I give my poor brain a break from studying exercise science. It's certainly not my favourite subject but it is challenging and I'm learning many new things so that is good. Which reminds me one of the boy's here at work was telling me yesterday about The Amazing Human Body Exhibition in Melbourne.

"The Amazing Human Body, is an educational exhibit that is intended to provide audiences with a unique and educational perspective on the inner working of the human body by viewing real human specimens, preserved through a method called "plastination". The specimens are dry and odorless, and remain unchanged for a virtually unlimited amount of time, making them truly accessible. These characteristics lend plastinated specimens inestimable value both for training prospective doctors and for educating non-professionals in the field of medicine. The exhibition presents approximate 400 real human specimens, including 18 whole bodies and individual organs. Audiences can learn how their own bodies are constructed as they walk through the exhibition, starting with the human skeleton and the way muscles are structured, on to the intestines and special specimens on the nerves and blood vessels, all the way to the way a baby develops in the uterus. There are also specimens that show the effects of disease such as a heart attack or cancer. It can teach children about human physiology and help adults learn how to lead healthier lives. Additional, the exhibit also allows for audiences to better understand diseases, including cancer, high blood pressure, the effects of smoking and the use of artificial supports such as knees and hips."

This is where I'm off to this weekend with my wonderful husband. It's a great opportunity to further my understanding and knowledge towards my Cert IV. Don't worry, I'll be sure to report back after it and fill you in on all the details.

Well my tootsies are getting cold so I'm going to put some socks on, enjoy the rest of yoru evening. Good night. xx

Hello everyone,

I wanted to personally follow up and let you all know that I am very excited about coming to Australia in 2008. I know many of you were disappointed about this year, so was I. I want everyone to understand that I wish it was as easy as jumping on a plane and coming over to work with you, however that is not the case. This is a business and your country is an expensive place. This year the camp was postponed because of lack of payments, not registrations. WE had plenty of girls but we did not have all the money collected to pay for my airfare, hotels, food, etc,,,, so I was taking a huge risk at possibly being in the hole once I got there.

For 2008, this can not happen again. So to eliminate this process we will put a dead line for registrations up for January 1st. I at least need you to register your pre registration by then and then we will work on your balance payments in January. I hope you understand. WE will be very up front and honest with you and ultimately I will make the final decisions and what is in the best interest of Phat Camp. I will tell you that if you need to buy a ticket to come to the camp , do not buy it till January. I will know if I am coming for sure or not in January 2008.

Thank you for hanging with me and please know that I really want to come back and work with each of you and inspire you to become your best. Have a blessed day and feel free to email me personally with any questions.

Sincerely,
Jen Hendershott

Salicylates, Amines & Glutamate

These are the three natural chemicals of which are in food that we eat every day. For me on the other hand are food that I'm now avoiding. Not an easy task but also not impossible. The first couple of days I was Little Miss Cranky Pants but now that we've fine tuned my food and my body has adjusted things are travelling along nicely. My favourite meal is my breakfast, I have to admit I now LOVE PORRIDGE. Never in a million years would I have thought that those two words would ever come out of my mouth but they have. Standing up, "My name is Lia and I love Porridge!" LOL!!

So here's a little information about the three types of natural chemicals:

SALICYLATES are a family of plant chemicals found naturally in many fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs and spices, jams, honey, yeast extracts, tea and coffee, juices, beer and wines. They are also present in flavourings (e.g. peppermint), perfumes, scented toiletries, eucalyptus oils, and some medications (ASPIRIN is a member of the salicylate family).

AMINES come from protein breakdown or fermentation. Large amounts are present in cheese, chocolate, wines, beer, yeast extracts and fish products. They are also found in certain fruits and vegetables, e.g. bananas, avocados, tomatoes and broad beans.

GLUTAMATE is a building block of all proteins, and is found naturally in most foods. In its free form, not linked to protein, it enhances the flavour of food. This is why foods rich in natural glutamate are used in many meals, for example tomatoes, cheeses, mushrooms, stock cubes, sauces, meat extracts and yeast extracts. Pure monosodium glutamate (MSG) can also be used as an additive to increase the flavour of soups, sauces, Asian cooking and snack foods.

Nothing in life is impossible unless we make it impossible. In the past I've used every feasible excuse there is for pretty much everything in my life and if there's one thing this sport has helped me learn about myself is that there's no room for excuses anymore. :o)

On another note I'm back riding to and from work five days a week. Oh boy, have I lost my bike fitness over winter. *tsk tsk* Not to worry though, it'll be back in next to no time. It's already feeling better, thanks to muscle memory. I don't really consider bike riding to and from work as cardio, it's more my means of transportation so we'll call it lifestyle cardio. LOL!!

The Inaugural Get-Yer-Shit-Together Challenge

So we're always talking about the theory of change here at craigharper.com.
Okay, I'm talking, you're listening.
Er, reading.
You know what I mean.

Always exploring, discussing and analysing the nuts and bolts of self-improvement.
How to make a better version of... us.
The 'new and improved'.. you.

Not that we shouldn't take time to appreciate and enjoy who we are and where we are right now.. but we're always a work in progress on some level.

Anyway, as you know from Sunday's post, I'm the Action Dude (sounds like I need a cape or something.... "is it a bird, is it a plane... no, it's Action Dude!).
Alright, I'll stop.
Clearly I missed out on the embarrassment gene.
Feel free to cringe and feel uneasy at my expense; I won't know.

And if you're a regular on this site then you'll know that I'm all about removing one's ass from one's couch and taking one's head out of the sand and getting shit done.
Now, If I'm getting too technical for you at any stage, lemme know and I'll dumb it down a bit for you.
And why is one talking like the Queen anyway?
And in the third person?

Well my faithful readers, today is an opportunity (if you choose to make it so) for you to stop reading, thinking, talking and waiting and to start doing.
Well actually, every day is... but sometimes we need a little shove with love.

I'm giving you the chance to participate in my twenty eight day...(cue the trumpets) "Get-Yer-Shit-Together-challenge".
GYST challenge for short.
Just rolls off the tongue doesn't it?
Dunno how it's gonna look on the posters though.
Oh well.
My PR guy told me that I should probably go for a more PC name for the challenge or perhaps something a little less offensive and more marketable; I told him he had smelly breath and to go clean his yellow teeth with his nicotine-stained fat little fingers.

Sure we could call it something fancy-schmancy like "The Harper Behavioural Modification Program" but..
1) That's the most lame-ass name I've ever heard and
2) When we're completely honest, all we really wanna do is... get our shit together right?

So the name was a no-brainer.
And as I've said before.. "my site, my rules."
Everything else I write (for mags) is perused (and periodically mauled) by editors... so ya gotta love the creative freedom of a blog.

By the way (yes I know I'm digressing), have you ever noticed how people write completely differently to how they speak?
To their friends they say "C'mon Charlie... get yer shit together man you're being a total tool."
But in the written form that sentence translates to "Excuse me Charles, I feel there are some underlying behavioural issues which may need to be explored and addressed."
Glad I'm not smart enough to write like that.

Now while most challenges have an agenda (use our products, pay our registration fee), my only 'agenda' is for you to climb out of that very deep hole you've dug for yourself and see what it's like up here where the sun's shining and the birds are singing.
For you to step out of Groundhog day and into a world of new possibilities.

That's right; it's a practical opportunity for you to start doing and stop talking.
We all need a catalyst.
And a cheer squad.
And a start date.
And we all need to create some momentum... so I'm gonna give you a little nudge.

If you're a person who has a history of 'almost' doing stuff... then this little challenge might be the opportunity for you to break that destructive, repetitious, frustrating cycle of blaaaah that you seem to have embraced so often.

If you've been the Captain of the 'SS Monotony' for too long... then maybe it's time to jump ship.
But you need to be ready.
The water's cold... but it's oh-so refreshing!!

So why twenty eight days?
Well, my experience tells me that four weeks is long enough to create real change and short enough to stay focused and on track.
And if done properly, these twenty eight days can be the catalyst for life-long change.

Okay, here's how it works:

1. The start-date is Monday, September 3, 2007.
Yes I know we could all start tomorrow (Wednesday August 29) but some of you won't even read this until after that date and some of you will need to make some practical arrangements in order to really get the best out of yourself over the twenty eight days. Use this time wisely and productively to get your head, heart and life (practically) where they all need to be for you to create FOREVER change. This challenge is not about four weeks... it's about starting the wheels turning on life-long change.
It's a beginning.

2. Identify what needs to change in your life (you already know). Tell someone that you trust what you're doing and why. Ask them to kick your ass, keep you honest and to encourage you through the four weeks (get them to read this post so they know what you're talking about). It doesn't matter what area of your life those changes relate to (health, work, relationships, destructive habits, attitude, self-talk, overcoming fears)... as long as they have something to do with creating positive change in your life.
And no, it's not a weight-loss challenge (as such)... but if you need to drop some weight then I would love you to get involved.

3. Set some specific goals (regarding that thing/issue/habit).

4. Write NO MORE THAN two hundred words to tell me (and perhaps a few thousand others) what you are going to achieve over the twenty eight days and why it will be different this time. This is your public commitment and yes, this takes a little guts.
If I can reveal my head and heart to you guys every single day... you can do it once. Yeh?
If you don't want to reveal your identity, use your initials.
By the way, if you can't take a risk, you can't succeed.

5. All of your submissions (goals, objectives, commitments) will be displayed in a separate area on this site. There will be a link in the right side bar on the home page (where you are now) below the 'Life Renovation' advertisement. It will be up this Friday and it will be an orange box saying 'GYST Challenge'... click on that link and it will take you through to where all your goals and commitments will be displayed. You can send those from now.
They will be displayed on the site from this Friday.

6. You can send your submission via the comments link at the bottom of this post or you can email me via the 'email Craig' menu option in the left side bar. Either way, it will make it through. If a photo is appropriate (and relevant) please send it in a JPG format.

7. Even though it's called a challenge.. you're the only competitor and you are.. your major obstacle. If you can get out of your own way, you might do what you've failed to do in the past. While it's not a competition, I will be giving away a few goodies (books, T-shirts, a place in my next Life Renovation program) to people that I feel have made an outstanding effort. Don'tcha think it's funny that these days we have to motivate people to change their life for the better with prizes... surely the change is the reward?

"I'm not losing weight unless I win a car."
"Then I'll get fat again."

Am I the only one that thinks this is stupid?
I don't get it; I must be missing something.
Lemme know if you've figured it out.

8. Find a reason to succeed. Stop rationalising why now is not the time for you.
If you want to continue to sabotage your life and waste your potential, feel free.
If you want to break the cycle, change your attitude (it's a choice).

9. Every Monday (for the four weeks) you will be required to send us a one hundred word (or less) brief progress report. This is so we can all see how you're going and encourage and support you... and so that you have a whole bunch of accountability partners to report to and keep you doing what you need to do.
Just so you know, I will read every submission.
I will comment when I can..

10. I would encourage you to read other people's submissions and to send through your support and encouragement... either by clicking on the comments link or via email. We will get them and post them either way. I have a good feeling about the potential of something like this concept; no money changing hands, no agendas, no ulterior motives, no products to sell... just a bunch of like-minded people with good motives helping each other towards a better life.
Call me old-fashioned.
It may or may not work; it's up to you guys.

Start sending your submissions from today and feel free to add your (general) thoughts and comments as well.

Cheering you on,

Craig ( ) - group hug.

"'If you want something that you've never had,
you must be willing to do things you've never done."

-- Andrew Ivey

Porridge

The first thing that used to come to mind when I'd hear the word porridge was yuk, no thank you! But due to my elimination diet I had so few breakfast choices and also had to take into consideration my daily nutrition requirements for my bodybuilding. So of course you all know what I ended up choosing and that was a nice hearty bowl of porridge. If that isn't a perfect example of karma I don't know what is. LOL!!

So here's what we have come up with:

1/3 Cup Rolled Oats
2/3 Cup Rice Milk
1 tsp Vanilla Paste
1 tsp White Sugar

Now I know what you're thinking, why the rice milk and the white sugar? Well the rice milk is the only milk I'm allowed to have and the same as white sugar, no splenda allowed unfortunately. Of course I know white sugar isn't good for me but when you desperately lack flavour in your food I'm willing to sacrifice for the time being. Once my taste buds adapt to eating porridge I'll scrap white sugar from it. :o)

Actually Daniel (the best husband in the whole entire universe) did some experimenting in the kitchen for me this evening. He came up with this recipe and taught me the right way to cook and prepare my porridge. For the last two mornings mine had resembled something out of a clag bottle, it was obviously operator error. It wasn't very nice, either to look at or eat. LOL!! Oh well, you live and learn. ;o)

I could've given up and gone with the less than healthier option but you know me, I'm stubborn as anything and I was determined to eat and enjoy my porridge. After all, I knew how good it was for me. So with my self-discipline and consistency we managed to find something that would meet the criteria for the elimination diet as well as taste positively delicious. I've already sampled it and I have to admit it was nice, very nice. :o)

Step after step

How many small opportunities do you routinely ignore because you're waiting, wishing, searching and hoping for a big opportunity? That big opportunity may or may not ever arrive, yet all the while those small opportunities are there for the taking.
Every moment is an opportunity to create a little bit of value. Although the progress you can make in a single moment may not seem like much, those small moments can add up over time to big achievements.

Take one small step and it hardly seems like you've gone anywhere at all. Yet when you continue taking step after step, you can get anywhere you choose to go.

The most reliable path to success is a simple one that anyone who chooses to do so can follow. Dream big dreams and take small steps, one after another after another until you're there.

If you attempt to leap to the top of the mountain in a single effort, you will almost certainly fail. Yet make the commitment to reach the summit step by step, and you will surely get yourself there.

Right this moment there are dozens of small opportunities just waiting for you to seize. Create a little value here, a little value there, again and again, and there's no limit to where you can go.

Aussie's too tired, cold to exercise......

MORE than 90% of Australians are too tired, too cold or too busy to exercise.

An online survey of 1143 people conducted this month on behalf of Subway restaurants found nearly 94% of Australians were making excuses for not exercising, while 51% made excuses for not eating more healthily.

This was despite 91% of respondents saying they believed their fitness needed improving, while 80% believed they should eat better.

The most popular excuses were: they too tired, something else came up, they couldn't be bothered and poor weather.

The Elimination Diet

I saw the dermatologist this week and he's put me on an elimination diet for the next six weeks. I've been on one before but it wasn't anywhere near as restrictive as this. Trust me, it makes competition dieting look easy and that's no easy accomplishment either. LOL!! There's absolutely no flexibility and my options are very limiting to say the least so there will be a lot of repetitive eating. I've had to remove all foods that contain salicylates, amines and glutamate and only eat foods that are classified low chemical. Once again, it's a big learning curve for me but hopefully we'll find out what it is that my skin's reacting to. :o)

I've also had to stop using all products on my external body. I can only use soap, moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste that has been recommended to me. Now the food was one thing but for those that know me know that I'm a product queen and that's going to hurt me the most. LOL!!

So what are the positives here, well that's the easy part really.

1. I'll be saving time and money.
2. The excess weight will physically fall of me.
3. It will test me which will make me psychologically stronger.
4. My skin will heal and look healthy again.

Here's what the next seven days diet will look like:

Meal 1
1/3 Cup Rolled Oats, 2/3 Cup Water & 1 Tsp White Sugar

Meal 2
100g Garlic Beef, 200g White Potato with Shallots & 100gm Brussell Sprouts

Meal 3
100g Garlic Beef, 50g Iceberg Lettuce & 2 x Rye Wraps

Meal 4
25g Raw Cashews & 150g Pear Halves

Meal 5
100g Grain Fed Organic Chicken, 100g Iceberg Lettuce, 50g Celery & 50g Bean Sprouts

Meal 6
1 x Organic Boiled Egg

Nutritional Information:
Calories: 1390
Protein: 124g
Carbs: 1286g

Wish me luck everyone! :o)
